Yesterday, Maria (you know her of the Pastry School & now Birth of a Bakery Blogs) took Jackson & Jillian to a place correctly titled, "Make a Mess." From all reports, the kids had a blast. Here's Maria's "guest blogger" entry and pictures from the event.
Make a mess, make a mess, make a mess, here at “Make a mess!” This is the delightful little ditty our creative little Bean and Bubba made up in their anticipation of spending the afternoon at “Make a Mess Kid’s Fun Center.” They were just bubbling over with excitement and couldn’t wait to sing me their little song. I had the feeling Robin had heard it about a bazillion times already, but I thought it was cute and asked them to sing it in the car too.
Before we exited their house, we had to put some ground rules in place – listen to me (Ms. Maria) or our Make a Mess adventure would end early AND that there would be pictures. Little Ms. Bean sometimes like to play shy for the camera and duck, turn, or cover her mouth right as the picture is snapped. Since Tater was getting some Mommy time, we formed a plan to meet up with Robin and Tater at Dairy Queen at the end of our respective adventures. Of course, Bean and Bubba promised to follow the rules, so we headed for the car.
So me and “the littles” spent about 2 ½ hours at Make a Mess. There were kids running everywhere, parents wandering around trying to decide whether to follow the kids around, or just sit and watch them from the snack bar area. I followed the kids around for the first 30 minutes and snapped pictures like crazy, then I retreated to the snack area and watched them from there. As you can see from the pictures, they explored a multitude of activities and different play areas. They both spent a lot of time climbing over, through, and on top of the inflated obstacle course thing. (It’s the “thing” that is red and yellow in the pictures.) Although, I think their all-time favorite was the ball pit. I’m not sure if it was being able to swim, fall, bury themselves, or that they could nail other ball pit inhabitants with the colorful balls. Bubba spent a lot of time playing air hockey, basketball, and back in the ball pit.
I know this will come as a surprise, but Bean spent a lot of time on the karaoke stage “singing”. They played in the sand box, the slime pit, fished in a water-filled miniature fishing boat, drew on the dry erase wall, and painted on a re-useable wall surface. They paused long enough to drink some soda, briefly cool off, and run right back to all the activities over and over. Since little Bubba was so excited to go to Make a Mess, he couldn’t actually sleep during his nap time. Well, that became obvious about 45 minutes before we left Make a Mess; little dude started losing steam quickly. Bean agreed to leave so we could head to DQ and meet Robin and Tater, but let me tell you that little girl was still going strong.
As much joy as I got out of seeing them have so much fun, I also knew we were all building some of our last memories together. Words cannot describe how much I’m going to miss all 3 of these little people and Robin once they move.
